Crazy Metro Construction Site in Delhi’s Moti Bagh

One of my twitter followers recently pointed me towards the following images of a construction site shot in Delhi in August 2014. It shows some precast segments precariously hanging from a launching girder just about a meter above people’s heads walking on a Foot Overbridge!

The foot overbridge (FOB) shown above is located in Moti Bagh where the Pink line is being built by Larsen & Toubro. The viaduct is long complete (see it on google maps) and can be viewed in this excellent aerial shot:

Fortunately no incident took place during construction. However, looking at the images again, either they had no regard for safety or they were completely assured that the segments will not give way and fall off. Launching activity from one pier to the other takes only a couple of days, so at the very least, they could have blocked the FOB from being used. I’m glad to see the Metro expand at a rapid pace, but safety for all – workers and citizens must be a priority.
