Location of Depots for Mumbai’s Dahisar – DN Nagar & Dahisar(E) – Andheri(E) Metro Lines

Recently I was asked on Twitter about the location of the depots that will take care of the maintenance & repair of the trains that will run on Mumbai’s upcoming Dahisar – DN Nagar & Dahisar(E) – Andheri(E) elevated metro lines, so I thought it might make sense to put a post together for everyone’s benefit.

Land for both the depots has been identified and steps are currently being taken to acquire them. Here’s a map showing their location:

Dahisar – DN Nagar line (a part of the larger Dahisar-Bandra-Mankhurd line)

The state government is in talks to acquire a 48 acre land parcel in Malwani (Malad) shown below. The land is owned by the Manjara Charitable Trust that was setup by Vilasrao Deshmukh and can be accessed via the Malad-Marve road. In a land swap deal, the trust might given a similar sized land parcel in Charkop.

Dahisar East – Andheri East (a part of the larger Dahisar East – Andheri East – Bandra East line)

The 64 acre land identified for this line’s depot is owned by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and functions as a Remote Receiving (R/R) station. As you can see below, a large swath of it is clearly not being put to any good use. In fact a part of it close to CS Link Road has been encroached! This unfortunately is a common sight across  several AAI properties in the region, be it at the CSI airport or at the Kalyan airstrip. To sidetrack for a second, in the 90’s an assistant manager at the AAI sold this land to a group of businessmen but thankfully got caught – read about that little known incident here.

Thanks for the very well informed article. On a separate note, Vilasrao Deskmukh was no saint, all politicians grab prime government land in the name of trusts and open engineering/medical/mba colleges asking lakhs of donations from rich students who don’t deserve or value the degree they are paying for. Why can’t they start non-profitable education institutes like vocational training colleges or night colleges? This a racket and private colleges are not charitable institutes.
