First Pier for Nagpur’s Metro Project Takes Shape at Khapri

The first pier for Nagpur’s metro has started to take shape! This comes a little more than a month after the Airports Authority of India gave its No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the Nagpur Metro Rail Corp Ltd (NMRCL) to construct a 800 meter elevated stretch between Khapri railway station and the Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) siding.

This pier is part of the 4.5 km stretch in the MIHAN Airport area which was designed by RITES. This stretch is under construction by NCC (earlier known as Nagarjuna Construction Company) which was given the contract by the NMRCL in May. Fun Fact: Recently NCC emerged as the Lowest Bidder for Bangalore Metro’s 6.29 km extension of the Green line from Puttenahalli to Anjanapura.

While the majority of the metro line at Khapri will be at-grade (on the ground level), there will be one big and two small bridges including a rail overbridge (ROB). A pre-bid document issued by the NMRCL shows the elevated viaduct portion of the line:

I’ve replicated it on Google Earth imagery:
