TBM Makes 4th Breakthrough at Delhi Metro’s Panchsheel Park Station

And yet another breakthrough! This is the 2nd one for the month after the breakthrough at Mayapuri Shaft a couple days ago.

On the morning of March 7, the THI 15 Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) deployed by the FEMC-Pratibha JV (CC-23) for Delhi Metro’s Phase 3 project made a breakthrough at the Panchsheel Park station! This TBM excavated and built a roughly 635m long tunnel for the new 38.235 km Magenta line’s down-line after being commissioned from the Chirag Delhi station in August 2015.

This is the 4th breakthrough to take place at the Panchsheel Park station. The first 2 took place from the Hauz Khas side. For details and images of the previous breakthroughs, see the following posts:

• August 27 2015 – Delhi Metro TBM Makes a Breakthrough at Panchsheel Park Station on Magenta Line

• October 21 2015 – Delhi Metro TBM Makes a 2nd Breakthrough at Panchsheel Park Station on Magenta Line

• December 10 2015 – Delhi Metro TBM Makes a Breakthrough at Magenta Line’s Panchsheel Park Station

With this breakthrough, all twin tunnels on the 6.1 km stretch between Munirka – RK Puram – IIT – Hauz Khas – Panchsheel Park – Chirag Delhi stations are now complete! Now only 7 more breakthroughs are left to be made on the Magenta line:

Contract Contractor Origin Destination Tunnel
CC-23 Pratibha – FEMC Greater Kailash Nehru Enclave Down-line
CC-23 Pratibha – FEMC Chirag Delhi Greater Kailash Up-line & Down-line
CC-27 L&T – SUCG Shankar Vihar Aravali Mid-Shaft Down-line
CC-27 L&T – SUCG Vasant Vihar Aravali Mid-Shaft Down-line
CC-27 L&T – SUCG Vasant Vihar RK Puram Mid-Shaft Up-line

For a comprehensive report with progress made on all lines’ tunnels, please see my March 2016 Tunneling Update.

The TBM operating from Vasant Vihar to the Aravali mid-shaft for the down-line tunnel reached the mid-shaft’s diaphragm wall last night, so expect good news in the next 1-2 days. 🙂
