1st Metro Pier Starts Taking Shape in Hyderabad’s Congested Sultan Bazar

Six months after the Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd was able to amicably reach an agreement with local traders, hawkers & businessmen to build its viaduct through the narrow 40 feet wide Sultan Bazar Road, the first of 10 piers has now started to take shape!

Piling work on this section started in February 2016 and workers on this 250 meter section of  the 14.78 km Jubilee Bus Station – Falaknuma line have only able to carry out work in the night when the hustle-bustle dies down. As per the agreement reached in December 2015, the road will be widened to 65 feet rather than the original plan of 100 feet and any property losing over 50% space would be provided with an alternate shop at the HMR’s rehabilitation & resettlement complex in Putlibowli. The most vital carrot offered by the HMR which clinched the deal was the doubling up of compensation rates up to Rs 1 lakh/sq yard.

Fast forward to today, the foundation for eight piers is now ready and notices have started to be issued to property owners for carrying out demolishing work so that the road can be widened to accommodate heavy construction equipment & trailers for hauling in segments to build the line’s viaduct.

What a mess, right? Similar scenes were observed in Mumbai’s Andheri West area where the 11.4 km Line 1 was under construction between 2007-2014.

It looks quite similar to sarojni nagar market (Delhi). 😀
How can they build overhead metro, they should have preferred underground metro in such areas.

Its a private run metro and they wanted to go with the least investment and they said Hyderabad is a rocky terrain so they are going above the ground

I believe they’ll complete the pillars in the next one month. Gotta see how they’d manage to construct the viaducts without affecting the business. If they do the job only in the nights, then it’s gonna take longer time to finish the viaducts.

Any update on the progress on the section leading and upto Sultan bazaar on either side ?

Hi, the stretch from Sultan Bazar-MGBS is incomplete. It’ll be interesting to see how they build around Osmania MC and make the line cross over the Miyapur-LB Nagar line. North of the bazar, pier work is complete until Narayanaguda.

        Thank you TMRG !

Just on a side note, why does it seem that there is absolutely no public communications from either HMR or from L&T on Hyd Metro. The first 2 yrs, L&T let its work do the talk, but now we don’t know what stretches they are focussing and working on. The facebook page of HMR keeps repeating pictures of completed sections.

Namma Metro PRO is doing a great job for the record.

I know, right? Seems like the HMR social media team is out of things to showcase. I’m not a big fan of the photoshopped/airbrushed images or Niz being plastered across all images.
