Piling Work Begins for Mumbai Metro’s Line-2

Construction work for Mumbai Metro’s 18.6 km Line-2 connecting Dahisar with DN Nagar has commenced with the contractor, J Kumar Infraprojects, starting piling work at multiple places along the city’s Link Road in the western suburbs. Piling rigs were deployed earlier this month at places such as Malad, Mohan Nagar & IC Colony, and have now started to build the foundation for the line’s elevated structure.

The contract to J Kumar Infraproject was awarded by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (executor of the project) in July 2016 after they had emerged as the lowest bidder for both packages, AC-01 & AC-02, in May 2016. The line (see alignment map) will consists of 17 elevated stations at Dahisar (east), Anand Nagar, Rushi Sankul, IC Colony, Eksar, Don Bosco, Shimpoli, Mahavir Nagar, Kamraj Nagar, Charkop, Malad Metro, Kasturi Park, Bangur Nagar, Goregaon, Adarsh Nagar, Shastri Nagar and DN Nagar where it’ll connect up to Line-1.

To rehash from another post, piling work is the first step in the construction process and is used to build the elevated viaduct’s foundation. Typically 4-6 piles are built per pier as shown below:

Within the next 3 months, the contractor will begin casting piers on-site and locals will start seeing more visible progress.

Wasn’t there a proposed metro station for oshiwara in line 2? is it replaced Goregaon metro station?

The closest station to Oshiwara will be at Bangur Nagar and Kasturi Park (not sure where this place or whether it exists). All station names can later be expected to change to reflect their actual location.

      Thanks for your message 🙂

I just checked, the Goregaon bus depot station on line 2A is right next to oshiwara depot and in front of Oshiwara industrial complex.

Along with these metro lines, I hope government also acts on Oshiwara district center to reduce the need for people to travel. The city needs much more similar steps to improve the standard of living.

Thank you for doing spectacular work through this blog, I will continue to follow this website.

Can’t start until 2018. The part of the line is currently being designed and they are yet to invite bids for its construction.

2A & 7 metro line has a deadline of 30 months. N as per my info; they are suppose to be ready in 30 months

One thing to set a deadline and another to complete work within it. Given the site constraints (esp. on the WEH with its traffic), it’s not going to be an easy task.

    Amazing work metro guy.

Absolutely delighted to see Mumbai finally get a meaningful metro plan covering both existing trunk routes and crossing East to West routes.

One way the govt could fund these very costly projects is charge higher property taxes to houses within say 1km of upcoming metro stations for next 5-6 years till the line is commissioned. There would be significant property value or rental value growth once metro starts. Ppl would be happy to pay a tax which goes directly into visible nearby infrastructure.

Hi, line will pass on the north-side of the flyover over the tracks. Height is unknown but it is likely to be as high as the flyover.

Hi, great job with providing the information and answering queries. I had a particular question, if you can either help me with the answer or guide me to the correct authority who can:

    – What’s going to be the height of the station being built at DN Nagar for Line2A? and will the Line 2 pass OVER or UNDER the existing Line 1. I reside near the DN Nagar Junction on the 7th Floor, and wanted to know if I should be foreseeing any privacy concerns by the windows owing to a station coming up right outside our building.

      Hi,
      1) Height of the new station is unknown, but I imagine it’ll be 20-25m high similar to Line-1’s WEH station
      2) Line-2A will pass over Line-1

Thank you so much. I filed an RTI with DMRC the same day i asked this question here, and got a reply from yesterday saying that the height of the proposed metro station at DN Nagar would be 22-23m from the Road Level, and the Roof Structure would be around 30-31m high. Just thought of sharing this information out here as well! 🙂

    Dear sir/madam,

I have a question for you. Once all the piers are erected and the viaducts are in place will the blue barricades be removed as it causes too much inconvenience for the traffic which moves at a snail’s pace due to the narrowing of the roads?. Appreciate your soonest reply. By the way your work done so far is laudable. Keep it going…

    • TMRG says:

Yes, contractors usually remove them in sections as soon as possible after completing viaduct work to help the traffic flow smoothly. I imagine that’ll be the case here as well.
