Nagpur Metro’s Elevated Reach 3 Project Launched

Following the award of 2 civil construction contracts to Afcons & ITD Cementation, the Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. today conducted a ground breaking / bhoomi puja ceremony to launch construction work on the 18.557 km east-west line’s Reach 3 section between Lokmanya Nagar & Jhansi Rani Square. This 10.387 km section consists of 10 stations and is overall the 2nd section to move to the construction stage after Reach 1 between Khapri & Sitabuldi.

Did you notice the map in the above image’s background? Guess where that’s from? 🙂

With construction launched, I expect this section to open no sooner than 2021. Bids for the crucial Sitabuldi interchange station still haven’t yet been invited, so Nagpur’s metro project, just like Bangalore’s, is headed towards fragmented operations with 2 stand-alone lines as shown in this status map:

Green: Under Construction | Red: Bids Invited | Black: Bids Yet to be Invited
