DMRC’s MD Indicates Heritage Line to Now Open Only After Holi

If you’ve been following along, then this shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Speaking with The Hindu’s editorial team in Delhi, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s Managing Director Mangu Singh has indicated they’ll be able to open the 5.17 km ITO – Kashmere Gate extension of the Violet Line, also known as the Heritage Line, only after the festival of Holi on March 13.

Excerpt from The Hindu:

“We are not in a hurry to open half done stations,” Mr. Singh said, referring to Phase II when many stations were opened to the public even before all the work was completed. Speaking about the much-delayed and much-awaited ‘Heritage Corridor’, which will link ITO and Kashmere Gate metro stations, Mr. Singh said the line was unlikely to open before Holi on March 13. “It is almost ready but needs fire clearance and clearance from the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety. It is a sensitive issue as other agencies are involved, it is not in our hands,” he said.

For one, I’m glad he’s straight-up admitted that the stations are not ready, as the Kashmere Gate Station has quite some interior finishing work pending before it becomes presentable and safe for public use – see lots of images here.

As I’ve previously highlighted in the January 2017 update post, with the way things are going at Kashmere Gate and the NATM tunnels north of it, where trains still haven’t entered for testing, this line is heading towards a Q2-Q3 commercial opening.

No recent update on that line – I’ll have to check with the contractor’s engineers to see what’s up. I expect it to open in 2018.

Vilot line was schedlued to open from June 2016. It was postponed to August then Oct then diwali then new year then Feb and now March. And no surprise if it is delayed further. In the time of Mr Shridharan all metro projects were completed in time. The new CMD ofDMRC has no hurry but people are egarly waiting fort he hetitage line to commence from kashmere gate to make their journey comfortable.I hope DMRC willstict to March commtment. There is of course hurry. We cann’t justify repeated deferment looking at the poorctransport system in Delhi.

When will Noida sector 62 extn to blue line be complete? It is very slow even without land acquisition problems.

Expecting that to open in 2018. A section from the City Centre to Sec-71 might open by the end of this year so that NMRC can start operations on their line from Sec-71 to Gr. Noida.

Give it more time. Expecting it to open in Q2 (April-June) as there’s quite some work left at Kashmere Gate.

Kasmere Gate and Lal Quila Station Construction is still going on. Whether Metro is going to revise opening date again even after delay of more than 24 months

Good question! They’ve been really quite so far. Only if the media nudges them will they offer a new deadline, which I believe would be around May-June.
