ITD Cem Lowest Bidder for 8 Stations on Nagpur Metro’s EW Line

ITD Cementation India has emerged as the lowest bidder for constructing eight new stations on Nagpur Metro’s 8.15 km Reach-4 elevated section, between Sitabuldi & Prajapati Nagar, after officials from the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro) opened the financial bids submitted by different civil infrastructure companies.

MahaMetro invited bids for this package in January 2017 at an estimate value of Rs 180 crores. At this time, ITD Cem’s bid value or the names & bid values of other bidders is not available. Once known, I’ll add it in here.

This section is part of the 18.557 km east-west line, and overall the 3rd of 4 sections where construction will start, with work already underway at Reach 1 (Sitabuldi-Khapri) and Reach 3 (Sitabuldi-Lokmanya Nagar). A major part of it will be built on the congested Central Avenue where 8 new stations are planned to come at Nagpur Railway Station, Dosar Vaisya Square, Agrasen Square, Chittaroli Square, Telephone Exchange, Ambedkar Square, Vaishnao Devi Square & Prajapati Nagar.

Looks like Nagpur is doing the same mistake BMRCL did with Ph-1 in not starting work on the interchange first. You’ll have broken pieces of lines working and the interconnect coming much later!

Yea, and it’s the same story in Ahmedabad as well. See the Ahmedabad Metro section – the ‘middle’ underground section, Sabarmati River bridge and Old High Court interchange’s packages were the last contracts to be awarded.

@TMRG Why do you think thats so ?
Is it because most of the interchanges are underground, and it takes time to prepare detailed drawings for such designs ? Or is there some other reason? Because even Chennai is struggling to complete its Central interchange station.

In Nagpur & Ahmedabad, uncertainty of land acquisition followed by detailed design prep time are to blame.

In Bangalore, over-the-top bids placed by infra firms led to initial delays in PH1’s UG tendering stage.

In Chennai’s case, bids for all UG sections including Central were invited and awarded in one go, but the contractor waited for all 6 TBMs to breakthrough to start finishing the rest of civil works.
