4th New Train Arrives at Lucknow Metro’s Transport Nagar Depot

Yesterday evening, 2 coaches of the 4th new 4-coach Alstom Metropolis train-set for Lucknow Metro’s 22.87 km Line-1 arrived in the city’s Transport Nagar Depot from Alstom’s Sri City facility in Andhra Pradesh. The remaining 2 coaches are scheduled to arrive today, and with this, the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) will have the minimum number of train-sets they require to start operations on the line’s 1st 8.5 km ‘priority corridor’ stretch between Transport Nagar and Charbagh.

The train’s 4 coaches are part of a 80 coach (20 train-set x 4 coach) order that Alstom India won in September 2015 after submitting a bid of Rs. 1069.81 crore. Lucknow Metro’s first train was unveiled in early November 2016 and arrived in the city shortly after on November 19. Following an initial round of secretive testing, the train was publicly flagged off on December 1 for commencing the project’s testing phase. The project’s 2nd train arrived in the city on March 25 and the 3rd on April 12.

Over the next couple days, a preliminary visual check will be performed by LMRC’s engineers followed by static and dynamic tests first within the depot’s test-line and then on the main-line.

Meanwhile, there’s still no word on when the local Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) from the Indian Railways’ North East Circle will visit and inspect the line. An invitation along with necessary paperwork was sent out on March 30 and all stations are now ready for commercial operations.

I think it will be not too late to start this line. It has already been delayed due to shortage of trains. When will the amausi section be ready for commercial operation?

I haven’t had a chance to see Transport Nagar – Amausi’s recent progress. Also haven’t heard anything for LMRC’s end.

What is the current status of the tunneling works at Hazratganj Shaft? Is the shaft ready for it’s first breakthrough?

Not ready. Once it is, they’ll only need 3-5 days to lower a TBM cradle and perforate the D-wall to make a clean breakthrough. Hopefully soon!

TBM has reached near the shaft. Concourse slab is already cast. Excavation below concourse is in process. TBM shall be retrieved on PCC shortly

There were 3-4 trailers parked off the Chennai Bangalore highway today, just before Kanchipuram, carrying carriages. I think a fifth (at least) train must be on the way.

      Nice spotting work! 🙂

Since you mentioned Kanchipuram, those coaches must be for Kochi Metro. Alstom is currently fulfilling their 75 coach (25 x 3) order right now as well. I believe they’ve got 7 trains right now, so this must be number 8.
