ITD Cem Lowest Bidder for Kolkata Metro’s UG Airport Section

ITD Cementation India Limited has emerged as the lowest bidder for constructing Kolkata Metro’s ramp, box tunnels and underground station at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (Biman Bandar), after officials from ‘Metro Railway, Kolkata’ opened the financial bids submitted by different civil infrastructure companies.

India’s Railway Minister laid the foundation stone for this section, between Jessore Road & NSCBIA, of the 6.87 km Line-4 in February 2016 following which the operator invited bids in December 2016 with an estimated construction cost of Rs 284.45 crores.

Project scope:

Execution Of Civil Engineering Works For The Underground Construction Of Rcc Box Tunnel In Underground Biman Bander Station Yard Using Diaphragm Wall, H Pile, Plunge Pile Etc And Other Allied Works From Ch 6411M To Ch 6873M In Connection With Extension Of Metro Railway From Noapara To Barasat Via Biman Bander

Here are the financial bid values submitted by 2 of the lowest, technically qualified, bidders:

Firm Bid
ITD Cem Rs. 315 cr
Tata Projects Rs. 321 cr

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) approved the line’s airport station way back in 2012 with 4 sets of tracks to serve both Line-4 (Noapara – Airport – Barasat) and Line-6 (New Garia – Airport):

If no issues arise, then ITD Cementation will go on to be awarded with Line-4’s last major civil contract – see list. This will also become their 7th major win in the last 3 months after they won 4 contracts in Bangalore and 2 in Nagpur.

With monsoon rains about to hit the city, preliminary construction work is expected to start only when it subsides in August. Until then, ITD will start mobilizing resources and initiate the hiring process to staff the project.

Scope of work does not make it clear if it includes construction of STATION,or only the RCC box tunnel by cut&cover

You’re absolutely right. The tender docs (no longer available for purchase) would have specified the the finer details but I can’t get my hands on it.

From my interaction with someone in the know-how, this will include everything that I’ve mentioned – a station, box tunnel (so no TBMs) and a ramp.
