Lucknow Metro to be Inaugurated on Sept 5; Ops Begin on Sept 6

India’s ninth metro system is scheduled to be inaugurated in Lucknow on September 5 by India’s Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Commercial operations on the city’s 22.878 km Line-1’s first 8.48 km elevated stretch with 8 stations between Transport Nagar and Charbagh will begin on the morning of September 6 at 6 am.

Construction on this section popularly called the ‘priority corridor’, started in September 2014 by Larsen & Toubro (package LKCC-01) and in September 2015 by SP Singla Constructions (package LKCC-02). Following an initial round of secretive testing, trial runs (testing) commenced on December 1 2016. The Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation received the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO)’s speed certificate in March-end and the CMRS’ final safety inspection certificate on August 14 after a number of corrections and load tests.

Lucknow’s Line-1 is equipped with Alstom’s URBALIS 400 CBTC (communication based train control) signalling system and its Alstom rolling stock fleet is based out of the Transport Nagar Depot where 6 out of 20 4-coach train-sets have arrived. The LMRCL initially plans to operate only 4 trains with a headway of 7 minutes through 8 stations at Transport Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Singar Nagar, Alambagh, Alambagh Bus Stand, Mawaiya, Durgapuri and Charbagh –

Out traveling. Most of the times I end up covering big updates on the go, but this time I needed a little break and completely zone out.

        Good..

Any update on Surat Metro…read in some news that the DPR has been sent to the centre for approval. Can centre’s approval be expected before Gujrat assembly elections?

Also waiting to read your analysis on the new metro rail policy announced by the centre..

DPR first needs the state government’s approval.

          Two possibilities-
          1) SG is lying about it & trying to show ‘progress’
          2) They have might have sent it for review purposes only

The new policy requires a PPP component for all projects seeking CG’s funds. I don’t believe Surat/SG has that part hashed out, so CG’s approval before the LA elections is unlikely to happen.

Congratulations Ashokji. The progress in Infrastructure development under the present NDA dispensation is laudable. Nice to know that you are playing a pivotal role.

I remember I was in the same flight from N Delhi to Lucknow, as Mr. E.Sreedharan was, when he was to meet the State Govt. Officials the next day, for finalising the contract. I wanted to take selfie with him at Delhi Airport, but somehow I could not… That time, I thought he is the most deserving Bharat Ratna Awardee, but not yet conferred. But anyway, BR award has lost its sheen, with all and sundry getting it.

Having said that, credit should got to Akhilesh and his govt. who were responsible for the early completion. Sad that Akhilesh could not see its inauguration under his regime. But I hope he gets the credit from the present govt.

Happy for Lucknow people. Lucknow should progress fast and attract the rest of the country to come and nest there.
