Kochi Metro’s 5 km 2nd Stretch to be Inaugurated on October 3

Kochi Metro Rail Ltd. has announced that its new 5 km Palarivattom – Maharaja’s College section of the 25.612 km Line-1 will be inaugurated on October 3 at 11 am, just in time for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup which starts on October 6. Kerala’s Chief Minister had confirmed his availability a week ago, but KMRL was waiting to hear back from the Union Minister for Urban Development to finalize the date.

This date has been fixed even before the final safety inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) takes place on September 25-26. KMRL seems to be confident enough of securing the CMRS’ statutory approval and not being forced to make any major rectifications that can potentially stall its opening.

Vypin buses should be extended up to Maharaja’s metro station for feeding more passengers from island areas…District collector should take immediate steps. KMRL should write to district administration for the sake of metro and passengers
