CMRS Completes 2-Day Inspection of Kochi Metro’s 2nd Stretch

On Tuesday night, the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety, KA Manoharan, and his team of 4 other officials from the Indian Railways’ Southern Circle completed a 2-day safety inspection of Kochi Metro’s new 5 km Palarivattom – Maharaja’s College section of the 25.612 km Line-1. This is the final statutory step required prior to the section’s inauguration which is scheduled to take place on October 3 at 11 am.

Inspection Schedule:

• Day 1 (Sept 25) – inspection of tracks and stations from JLN Stadium to MG Road
• Day 2 (Sept 26) – inspection of tracks and stations from MG Road to Maharaja’s College, operations control centre (OCC) and dynamic speed trial to test for passenger comfort

The inspection of stations included all facets of it such as signage, safety features, passenger amenities, control room and accessibility.

This new elevated section of Line-1 runs on Banerjee Road and MG Road, and once operational will extend the 13.2 km operational line deep into the city center through 5 new stations at JLN Stadium, Kaloor, Lisie, MG Road and Maharaja’s College –

The CMRS’s approval is expected to be received within a week’s time and will likely consist of certain conditions, the primary one being the completion of civil & finishing work at all stations, especially the JLN Stadium – see recent images.

    Seematy curve near MG road metro station is the biggest and dangerous curve in the entire stretch. Safety commissioner may impose speed restrictions sign board near this curve as speed negotiations may cause capsize of metro cars

    The concerns/aspirations/ideas expressed by the member is correct.
    But one should keep in mind that,big projects,for that matter metro…container road ..airport road etc are envisaged and implemented not for common man in mind…but to fulfill the needs of vested interest.
    I fear,the metro coaches may capsize if take some extra speed near
    “Sheemati “,that much is the curve.
    This particular curve is in memory of the surrender of authorities before wealthy and powerful?
