CEC-SAM India JV Launches Final U-Girder for Noida Metro

Workers from CEC-SAM India JV today launched the last of 2035 U-shaped girders for building the 30 km Aqua Line between Noida’s Sector 71 and Greater Noida Depot. This particular girder was launched for an emergency siding located between Sector-143 and Sector-144 stations (view map) parallel to the main-line.

Each girder for this line is typically 27 meters long, weighs 160 tons and was cast either at the Sector Theta-III yard or at the Sector-149 yard. Launching work commenced in December 2015, barely 7 months after all 3 civil construction contracts of the line were awarded to CEC-SAM India. In October 2016, they launched a record 218 U-girders with a combined length of roughly 3 km, beating their previous record of 200 achieved in May 2016.

They’re aiming for April 2018 which seems a little tight. They should be able to open it sometime before the summer ends.

Shouldn’t they extend the upper end from sector 71 further till Kishan Chowk? Because it is the obvious route without going left or right. Its a 5.6km straight stretch. It will make it more feasible to make the whole noida metro a loop in the future.

There’s a proposal to extend it all the way to Knowledge Park V via Kishan Chowk. I believe the UP govt will consider and approve it only after the line becomes operational and shows results.

Why not extend it towards ghaziabad?
Near crossing republic or nh24. And about the other end, will it be extended further towards nh91?

          1) Since this line has partially been funded by Noida (Noida Authority, Greater Noida Authority), they as well as the builder lobby would like it to be routed within the area towards Knowledge Park V, and perhaps on wards to the Depot Station in the future.

For Ghaziabad to be linked, the UP government and GDA will have to pitch in funds for a whole new line.

          2) Good chance of the line connecting to NH-91 in the future, but I haven’t come across any proposal on it yet. Maybe 10 years down the line? Let’s see….

Yup. Extending the lower end to nh 91 will give the people coming from khurja aligarh side to board metro and avoid the road congestion of dadri and ghaziabad. Easier inroute to delhi noida and ghaziabad. And a convenient checkpoint to connect the to-be-approved Khurja RRTS
