TPL-CCECC JV Casts 1st Pier for Ahmedabad Metro’s Reach-2

Towards the end of October, workers from the Tata Projects Ltd – China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (TPL-CCECC) JV completed casting their first pier on the 8.21 km Thaltej Gam – West Ramp section of Ahmedabad Metro’s 20.737 km Line-1. This elevated section with 7 stations is officially referred to as Reach-2, and is the last of 4 legs of the 39.259 km Phase 1 project where casting work has commenced.

Piling work to build this section’s foundation began in May 2017 along Drive-in Road after the TPL-CCECC JV was awarded with a Rs. 721 crore contract by the Metro-Link Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (MEGA) on January 25, 2017. Besides the elevated viaduct & crucial bridge over the Sabarmati River, the TPL-CCECC JV will be responsible for constructing 7 stations at Thaltej Gam, Thaltej, Doordarshan Kendra, Gurukul, Gujarat University, Commerce Six Road and Stadium Circle. The Old High Court Station (interchange with the 18.522 km north-south line) is a part of this line, but its construction will be carried out by Simplex Infrastructures as part of the north-south line’s 8.94 km Shreyas – Ranip package.

    Thanks.

By when do you expect the construction to be completed?

      Not before 2021.

If the underground section’s tunneling work encounters issues and gets delayed, then Reach-2 will resemble Bangalore’s Reach-4 which didn’t have a connection to the depot for years. Hoping we won’t see a repeat of that scenario.
