ITD Cem Casts 1st Pier for Bangalore Metro’s Whitefield Extn

Over the past couple days, workers from the ITD – ITD India Cem JV completed casting their first pier for Bangalore Metro Purple Line’s 15.257 km Whitefield extension. This pier is located north of the Hope Farm Junction and is a part of the under the 73.95 km Phase 2 project’s 7.218 km package Reach 1B (Visvesvaraya Industrial Area Station – Whitefield).

Piling work to build this pier’s foundation began in June 2017 – barely 45 days after the firm was awarded with a Rs. 689.51 crore contract by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation. Towards the end of August, workers began tying up rebar to form the pier’s skeletal structure.

Piers have started appearing at many other places, such as Phoenix Marketcity (see image) and Graphite India Junction (see image) where casting formwork was recently delivered.

ITD Cem has taken only 7 months to cast their first pier since receiving the letter of award (LoA) in April. For comparison, IL&FS ECC on Reach-2A (Mysore Road – Pattanagere) took 17 months, Soma Enterprise on Reach-2B (Pattanagere – Challagatta) took 10 months and NCC on Reach-4B (Yelachenahalli – Anjanapura Township) took 9 months. Things here are progressing nicely wherever the contractor has a clear right-of-way, but land acquisition still remains a concern for the other parts, especially the Baiyappanahalli – KR Puram stretch.

Pier skeleton looks oval in shape.. are the pillars oval too or circular? Oval will take lesser space at the median on the narrow Whitfield roads

Hi TMRG.. great job again and thanks a lot for the effort you put in…
At KR Puram, we would see 2 different lines.. the ORR and the Whitefield line.. Do you have any information on how the lines run? Confusing how the line would run from the KR Puram station to the Hoodi side with the flyover (KR Puram railway station to Marathalli) being there..
Also would there 2 lines (4 lanes) running parallel between KR Puram and Tin factory?

The lines are expected to run parallel from Tin Factory to K R Puram (lowry memorial college) After lowry memorial college they swap the position and I believe the whitefield lines goes above the flyover.

Look at the link below. (DPR shows better picture of flyover crossing)

Thanks Sharad.. I have seen the map before.. I was confused if the metro rail can go above the flyover.. it will be pretty .. plus the curvature it needs to take would be lot..
Would have been great if they head released a picture like they did for silk board..

Hi TMRG, can you give us an update about the phase II reach 2a and 2b, the mysuru road extension. Work seems to be going at a very slow pace and there is no clarity regarding the depot at Challeghatta and the new station before the depot.
