RCC – MBZ JV Lowest Bidder for Mumbai Metro Line-2’s Mandale Depot

A consortium of RCC Infra Ventures Ltd. – MBZ JV today emerged as the lowest bidder for constructing the second maintenance depot of Mumbai Metro’s 41.2 km Line-2 at Mandale, after officials from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) opened the financial bids for package CA-14’s construction.

The MMRDA invited bids for this depot’s construction on a 22 hectare land parcel in September 2017 and estimated construction to cost Rs 415.02 crores.  Here are the financial bid values submitted by the lowest technically qualified firms  –

Firm Bid
RCC – MBZ Rs. 390.43 cr
Ahluwalia Rs. 430.13 cr
Relcon – Ashwini JV Rs. 430.34 cr
JMC Rs. 442 cr
Reliance Infra Rs. 450 cr
NCC Rs. 493.86 cr
Sam India –  Al Fara’a JV Rs. 499.40 cr
Simplex Rs. 585 cr

RCC – MBZ’s bid is about 6% lower than MMRDA’s estimate. If no issues arise, then then they will go on to be awarded with a contract after the MMRDA’s Executive Committee gives its approval. Once awarded, MMRDA would like work to be completed within 42 months (3.5 years).

Here’s the location of the depot (view satellite imagery) –

Like the first depot at Malvani in the western suburb of Malad, this depot’s site also lies outside of the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) and doesn’t have any restrictions on construction. In the future, roughly a third of the new 378 coaches (63 trains x 6 coaches) being procured for both Line-2 & Line-7 will be maintained and stabled here.

Construction work for the 23.5 km Line-2B’s elevated viaduct and stations has been divided up into 3 packages. Simplex Infrastructures emerged as the lowest bidder for the 12.714 km western section (DN Nagar – Bandra West – Bandra Kurla Complex), and bids were recently re-invited for the 11.007 km eastern section (Bandra Kurla Complex – Chembur – Mandale) in two smaller packages.

    Hi

Why will line-7’s coaches be maintained at Mandale?

Is there any connection / interchange to transfer rolling stocks between L2 & L7?

Hi, Line-7’s trains won’t be stabled here. 378 coaches are planned to be procured for both Line-2 and Line-7 in one big tender, and they’re expected to be split somewhat evenly across 3 depots –

      Line-2 – Malvani and Mandale
      Line-7 – Dahisar

An accurate count of the number of trains in each depot will emerge when they’re closer to starting operations. MMRDA hasn’t publicly disclosed Dahisar East’s station design, so don’t know if it’ll have a rake interchange line between them or not.
