Noida Metro’s 1st CRRC Train Arrives at Greater Noida Depot

On December 14, the Noida Metro Rail Corporation received its first ever train for Noida Metro’s new 30 km Aqua Line (Line-1) from CRRC corporation’s Nanjing plant in China. The train’s four coaches were dispatched (see pics) on November 2 2017 and arrived at Gujarat’s Mundra Port on November 23 from where they transported to the depot on top of trailers.

These 4 coaches are part of a 76 coach (19 train-sets x 4 coaches) order for which the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, on behalf of Noida Metro Rail Corporation, signed a MoU with CRRC in March 2016 after CRRC emerged as the lowest technically qualified bidder in January 2016.

Each 3.2m wide train is designed to have a seating capacity of 186 passengers and can carry 1,034 passengers in crush-load conditions. The trains have darker shaded seats for senior citizens, disabled and women passengers.

The train’s preliminary design was unveiled in December 2016 – see design features & renders here.

After the coaches were unloaded, a preliminary visual check was performed by NMRC and DMRC’s Engineers. On December 16, the coaches were coupled/integrated together and were unveiled by DMRC and NMRC’s management on December 18. On the same day, the train was moved to the test track within the depot for dynamic tests and validations.

A delivery schedule for the 18 other trains hasn’t yet been released. DMRC (NMRC’s O&M contractor) plans to operate 11 trains initially, so the line’s opening in April 2018 could get delayed if all 11 are not in town by then – a repeat of what transpired in Lucknow.

Any idea when is the aqua line going to start? I heard sometime back that blue line extension will get delayed and so people will have to take the road for intermediate portion for some days.
