Trial Runs Begin on Delhi Metro’s Green Line Extn to Bahadurgarh

Back on December 9, engineers from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation began trial runs (testing) on the 11.182 km elevated extension of the 18.46 km Green Line (Line-5) between Delhi’s Mundka and Bahadurgarh’s City Park stations.

Testing on this section of the 162 km Phase 3 project was initially conducted between Tikri Kalan and City Park stations – a distance of roughly 6.5 km. DMRC’s engineers manually ran a 2.9m wide BEML train at a speed of 5 kmph and primarily observed its interaction with the civil structure to ensure there are no physical obstructions along the way.

The line follows NH-10 towards Rohtak and its structure is fairly straight without any major twists or turns.  This new extension has a total of 7 stations of which four are in Delhi—Mundka Industrial Area, Ghevra, Tikri Kalan and Tikri Border, and three are in Haryana – Modern Industrial Estate (MIE) , Bus Stand and City Park.

Trial runs on the Mundka – Tikri Kalan (within Delhi) were planned to begin in January 2018, but I haven’t seen reports (media or industry sources) suggesting they have commenced.

DMRC’s spokesperson indicated that the targeted deadline for opening this extension is June 2018, but that will partially depend on the completion of the depot-line which links the new Bahadurgarh Depot to the main-line. After years of delay, the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) in early February 2018 was able to acquire the land soon after which DMRC’s contractor began demolition work.

Once open, the Green Line will become 29.64 km long and make Bahadurgarh the 3rd or 4th (depending on the progress of the Violet Line’s 3.2 km extension to Ballabhgarh) town in Haryana to have metro connectivity after Gurgaon and Faridabad.

Great to have you back TMRG, and for the flood of updates! Any news on the Ballabhgarh extension of the Violet line? It was supposed to be commissioned in December 2017 if I remember right.
