Final U-girder Launched for Delhi Metro Red Line’s Ghaziabad Extn

On the night of December 29 2017, workers from Guangdong Yuantian Engineering Co – Tata Projects (GYT-TPL) JV launched the last of 594 U-shaped girders for building the 9.41 km Ghaziabad extension (Package CC-87) of the Delhi Metro’s Red Line under the 162 km Phase 3 project.

This final girder was launched between Hindon River and New Bus Adda Stations, and its launch was highly challenging due to a high-tension wire located in the line’s immediate vicinity. Each girder for this line is typically 28 meters long, weighs 160 tons and was cast at a yard located in Ghaziabad’s Sahibabad Industrial Area – view images from inside. Launching work commenced exactly 2 years ago on December 28 2015, about a year after a Rs. 639.49 crore contract was awarded to GYT-TPL on December 9 2014 (revised to July 2 2015 after court order).

This extension of the Red Line from Dilshad Garden includes 8 new stations at Shahid Nagar, Rajbagh, Rajendra Nagar, Shyam Park, Mohan Nagar, Arthala, Hindon River and New Bus Adda –

Though they are going to concentrate more on the blue line extesion and mohan nagar interchange now, but can you give a rough idea of the red line’s further extension into ghaziabad? I mean the future prospect, beacause there is a flyover ahead

Is DMRC really considering extension of blue line and mohan nagar interchange? I was thinking about it since a long time.

And about red line, I don’t know about ground reality, but I think Red line be extended till Chhapraula.

Dpr was submitted by DMRC to GDA in the first week of feb. They tabled it and approved it without any changes. The only thing left is allocation of funds by state government. It is a sure reality.

How come till chhapraula? There is a flyover in between. If it will be then ghaizabad railway station will be covered.

Check out Andheri metro viaduct above a flyover in Mumbai. Metro viaduct can be built above a flyover only if existing flyover is not too high. And I think population is dense enough till Chhapraula so that Red line can be extended.

TMRG, the initial part of Red line was built using precast segments and extension using U-girder. How do they change the type of viaduct during extension?

Initially it was congested so segmented boxes were used by gantry, but now movement space was available so u girders were used so as to make the process fast because it saves time as u girders are longer.
