Signalling Tests Completed on Western Half of Delhi Metro’s Pink Line

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) yesterday announced that its engineers along with Bombardier Transporation’s engineers have completed testing the Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling system on a 20.6 km stretch between Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus Station and Majlis Park Station of the upcoming 58.59 km Pink Line which’ll eventually connect Majlis Park with Shiv Vihar in the 162.5 km Phase 3 project.

The Pink Line (Line-7) is equipped with Bombardier Transportation’s CITYFLO 650 communications-based train control (CBTC) signalling solution which enables Delhi’s new Hyundai Rotem trains to be operated on both the unattended “driverless” and automatic train operating (UTO and ATO) modes. The contract for that was awarded by the DMRC in September 2013 with a value of Rs. 390 crore.

The DMRC has also indicated that they’ve received fire safety clearance, license for working lifts, preliminary Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) reports for signalling and platform screen doors (PSDs) and clearances from the Department of Telecommunications. With those clearances received, they’re now in the process of submitting their paperwork to the Indian Railways’ Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety to visit and examine the line one last time

The DMRC commenced manual testing on a small 6.5 km portion of the line between Shakurpur and Mayapuri in June 2017, and then extended testing further south to South Campus (Dhaula Kuan) in August. This 20.6 km section includes 12 stations (8 elevated and 4 underground) at Majlis Park, Azadpur, Shalimar Bagh, Netaji Subhash Place (interchange with Red Line), Shakurpur, Punjabi Bagh West, ESI Hospital, Rajouri Garden (interchange with Blue Line), Mayapuri, Naraina Vihar, Delhi Cantonment and South Campus –

As per the DMRC –

The papers for scrutiny and detailed examination by the CMRS are under submission to his office, and after these are cross-checked, examined and scrutinised in depth by the office of CMRS, further action is expected. In addition, since the application involves voluminous data of civil, electrical, signalling and track, the DMRC may also have to supply any additional information further sought by the office of the CMRS. After this entire process, it is expected that a suitable date for inspection of the section will be indicated.

I’ll tweet whenever the documents are submitted to the CMRS and publish a post whenever the inspection dates are fixed. This may take a couple months since foot overbridges at various stations (Dhaula Kuan, Rajouri Garden and Netaji Subhash Place) connecting to the existing lines aren’t in place.

Apart from the connecting bridges, the stations also bear a cemented grey look, like Rajouri, Mayapuri etc. Will they be painted before opening or DMRC open the stations as it is.

Any thoughts on why DMRC didn’t try to make Punjabi Bagh west an interchange station with green line ? Distance wise its a shorter 750m away, compared to the 900m Daula Kuan walkway. Or did they assume people would either switch to the red or blue line in they needed to get onto the green line ?
Although I must admit the 250m at kalkaji Mandir already seems long.

Well..your last line itself answers your question. I also dont see the purpose of connecting south campus and dhaula kuan. Its also clear that the connecting bridge will not open with the main line in the coming months, as lot of contsruction is pending.

Well it might be due to some space constraints caused by Punjabi Bath underpass and connecting South Campus with Airport Express is important for it would benefit college students coming from north

I am counting on these two sections, Magenta Line’s Janakpuri to IGI T1D and Pink lines’s Majlis Park to DU South Campus to be opened by 1st week of May.

Any updates about Magenta Lines’s Kalkaji Mandir to T1D section?

After seeing construction work from my eyes and photos and inputs from media, I can say that

1.Janakpuri West to IGI T1 link all work is complete.Only an inspection from CMRS is needed.
2.There is still some finishing works left between IGI T1 and Kalkaji Mandir, especially Panchsheel Park,GK and Chirag Delhi although trials are on.So we need to wait for some time. But if DMRC has its way, they want to open the whole route in one go.So we need to wait till May-June.The report of HT on this is totally fake,it can never open by March end.
      3.About Pink Line
*Work seems to be on hold between Mayur Vihar Pkt 1 and Trilokpuri due to land issues.
*Trials have just started between IP Extn and Maujpur
*Almost everything is complete between Majlis Park and South Campus except some(that long skywalk from South Campus to Dhaula Kuan)

Has DMRC sent inspection request to CMRS for Janakpuri-IGI section ?

No, It seems that DMRC is going to focus on Pink Line first and then on Magenta Line.In fact they want to open the whole route in one go and still some work is pending from IGI to Kalkaji. So an opening in May June timeframe seems plausible
