Introduction

The Uttarakhand Metro system, nicknamed Devbhoomi Metro, is a Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) proposed to connect Haridwar – Rishikesh – Dehradun in the state of Uttarakhand. The project will be executed by the Uttarakhand Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UkMRCL) – a special purpose vehicle and venture of the Government of Uttarakhand. In December 2016, the Uttarakhand state government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to prepare its detailed project report.

Phase 1 of the project is envisioned to connect Haridwar and Rishikesh. In the next phase, the line will be extended north to Dehradun. As per the initial technical specifications, the line will have standard gauge tracks, and trains will be powered by a 750V DC Third Rail traction system. A large part of the line will likely be at-grade (ground level).
