Halwara Airport – Status, Master Plan & Design
Halwara International Airport is a proposed project at the IAF’s existing Halwara Air Force Station near Ludhiana, Punjab by Airports Authority of India (AAI).
The project includes construction of an interim terminal building spread over 2,000 sq m area, apron, taxiway, internal approach road and car parking lot. Halwara Airport will become Punjab’s third international airport after Amritsar and Mohali.

Following its opening in 2023, the existing Sahnewal Airport will be permanently closed for commercial operations.
Current Status & Tenders
Halwara Airport’s new interim terminal building was approved by AAI’s board for construction in November 2021 with an estimated cost of Rs 4691.12 lakh.
Work to develop the internal approach road, taxiway, car parking and apron started in December 2021. Construction of the interim passenger terminal is currently under bidding. It will be built by the state government and the funds will be reimbursed by the AAI after monetization of its land at Sahnewal Airport.
