Shivamogga Airport – Status, Master Plan & Design

Shivamogga Airport is an operational greenfield airport at Sogane Village near Shimoga, Karnataka by Airports Authority of India (AAI).

After a failed start in the 2000’s, the project was relaunched by Karnataka’s Chief Minister in June 2020. The airport was inaugurated for commercial operations by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 27, 2023.

The airport features a lotus-shaped passenger terminal building, aircraft apron, singular runway and car parking facilities. It’s designed to operate small ATR-72-600 type aircraft and will be able to handle about 200 peak hour passengers.
