Itanagar Hollongi Airport – Status, Master Plan & Design

Donyi Polo Airport in Itanagar is an operational greenfield airport at Hollongi Village in Arunachal Pradesh by Airports Authority of India (AAI). The new airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 19, 2022.

Hollongi Greenfield Airport is equipped to handle A320 type aircraft having a capacity of 200 flyers during peak hours, and consists of 5 check-in counters and 2 parking bays.

The project had a 2022-end deadline and estimated to cost of ₹645.63 crore. The new airport terminal is an energy-efficient building with rainwater harvesting system and a glass façade offering the panoramic scenic view of the mighty Himalayas.

Current Status

The project was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 19, 2022. The first test flight landed earlier in October 2022

Location & Access

The new airport’s site is located about 15 km south of Itanagar in Hollongi, right at the base of the Himalayas – view satellite imagery

Terminal Design

Hollongi Airport’s terminal, spread across 4100 sqm., will be an energy-efficient building with rainwater harvesting system. It will have a glass façade offering the panoramic scenic view of the mighty Himalayas.
