Information
Delhi – Meerut RRTS is an 82.15 km under-construction semi-high speed rail line with 22 stations connecting Delhi – Ghaziabad – Meerut through a series of tunnels and elevated viaducts as part of Delhi’s Regional Rapid Transit System.
The line is one of the three early bird (Phase 1) lines to be developed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) where trains will run up to a maximum speed of 160 km/hr to cover the entire distance in 1 hour.
Within Meerut city, NCRTC will run Meerut Metro services on the RRTS’ infrastructure. This will be done by taking some value engineering initiatives and by building 8 dedicated metro-only stations.
The line’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) for construction was approved by the Uttar Pradesh State government in May 2017 and received the Government of India’s approval in February 2019. India’s Prime Minister laid its foundation stone in March 2019.
NCRTC aims to first start operations on an 18 km elevated Priority Corridor between Sahibabad – Ghaziabad – Guldhar – Duhai (EPE).
