Delhi – Meerut RRTS – Information, Route Map, Fares, Tenders & Updates
Delhi – Meerut RRTS is an 82.15 km under-construction semi-high speed rail line with 22 stations connecting Delhi – Ghaziabad – Meerut through a series of tunnels and elevated viaducts as part of Delhi’s Regional Rapid Transit System.
The line is one of the three early bird (Phase 1) lines to be developed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) where trains will run up to a maximum speed of 160 km/hr to cover the entire distance in 1 hour.
The line will be operated and maintained by DB Engineering and Consulting GmbH through a Rs. 1493.08 crore contract awarded in May 2022.
Within Meerut city, DB Bahn will run Meerut Metro services on the RRTS’ infrastructure. This will be done by taking some value engineering initiatives and by building 8 dedicated metro-only stations.
Delhi Meerut RRTS line’s DPR (Detailed Project Report) for construction was approved by the Uttar Pradesh State government in May 2017 and received the Government of India’s approval in February 2019. India’s Prime Minister laid its foundation stone in March 2019.
NCRTC aims to first start operations on an 18 km elevated Priority Corridor between Sahibabad – Ghaziabad – Guldhar – Duhai (EPE) in March 2023. During construction, a total of 7 tunnel boring machines (TBMs) will deployed – 4 TBMs by STEC and 3 TBMs by Afcons.

Delhi – Meerut RRTS Fares (Ticket Prices)
Delhi – Meerut RRTS line’s fare structure, prices and rules have not been announced yet. That will be done closer to start of operations.
NCRTC will deploy an EMV-based open loop Automated Fare Collection (AFC) system for which Datamatics Global Services – AEP Ticketing Solutions (DM-AEP-26A JV) was awarded a Rs. 227 crore contract in December 2021.
This system will allow QR Code based ticketing (digital QR & paper QR) and EMV (Europay, Mastercard, Visa) open loop contactless card ticketing based on NCMC (National Common Mobility Card) standards via a contactless bank card, phone or smartcard.
Riders will have the option to use QR code tickets which can be bought at each station’s ticket vending machines, ticketing booth or generated digitally on NCRTC’s mobile app or website.
Trains will consist of 1 or more business class coaches which will have their own separate fare structure & rules, with lounge access at the platform-level of certain stations. Business Class riders have to validate twice – once at the concourse level and the second on the platform level for access to the executive lounge for boarding the Alstom trains’ Business Class coach.
