Varanasi – Kolkata Expressway – Information & Status

610 km Varanasi – Kolkata Expressway (NH-319B) by NHAI is a proposed 4/6 lane access-controlled highway with a route alignment connecting Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, Ranchi in Jharkhand, and Kolkata in West Bengal.

This greenfield expressway under Bharatmala Pariyojna (BMP) program will run parallel to National Highway NH-19 (old NH-12) and link Varanasi Ring Road at Km 00.000 (near Barhuli village) with NH-16 at Km 610.417 near Uluberia, Howrah District, West Bengal.

The expressway is expected to be completed and opened in 2026. Land acquisition process started in January 2022 for a 80 km section in Bihar (Tilouthu – Imamganj).

Current Status

The expressway’s DPR and detailed design are being prepared for different sections. Land acquisition process started in January 2022 for a 80 km section in Bihar (Tilouthu – Imamganj).

Tenders & Contractors

NHAI began inviting tenders (bids) for construction in November 2022. This section will be updated when more notices are published for Jharkhand and West Bengal sections.
