Indore-Hyderabad Economic Corridor – Information & Status Update

687 km Indore – Hyderabad Economic Corridor, also known as Indore – Hyderabad Expressway, is an under construction 4 lane semi access-controlled road by NHAI with a route alignment through Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Telangana.

Construction on this primarily-brownfield corridor is being carried out under the Bharatmala Pariyojana Phase I program with a primary goal to improve the efficiency of freight movement and boost exports.

The project consists of a series of separate 4 lane highways strung together. Only the section between Khandwa (Madhya Pradesh) – Akola (Maharashtra) has a greenfield alignment.

  • Akola – Nanded – Sangareddy: (NH-161, 135 km Brownfield)
  • Sangareddy – Hyderabad: (NH-65, Brownfield)

In April 2022, the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways published that 242 km of its route’s work had been completed while 377 km was under implementation.

NHAI has not yet made its Detailed Project Report (DPR) available online. This economic corridor is planned to be completed by 2025.

Current Status

As of April 2022, 242 km had been completed while 377 km of route was under implementation. This economic corridor is planned to be completed by 2025.

In March 2024, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated a 40 km long four-lane section of NH-161 between Kandi – Ramsanpalle in Telangana
