Bhopal-Kanpur Economic Corridor – Information & Status Update

526 km Bhopal – Kanpur Economic Corridor, also known as Bhopal – Kanpur Expressway, is an approved 4 lane semi access-controlled road project by NHAI with a route alignment through Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

Construction on this brownfield corridor with new greenfield sections is being carried out under the Bharatmala Pariyojana Phase I program with a primary goal to improve the efficiency of freight movement (cement, minerals) and boost exports.

The project was first announced in January 2023 by Nitin Gadkari. One of the greenfield sections includes the ‘Sagar Link Road’ which will reduce the distance from Bhopal to Kanpur by 21 km.

NHAI has not yet made its Detailed Project Report (DPR) available online. This project is planned to be completed by 2026 and aims to reduce the travel time between Bhopal and Kanpur from the present 15 hours to 7 hours.

Current Status

Construction of the Bhopal – Kanpur Economic Corridor was announced in January 2023 by Nitin Gadkari. The project is planned to be completed by 2026.
