New Chennai Greenfield Airport – Status, Master Plan & Design

Chennai Greenfield Airport is a proposed project in Chennai, Tamil Nadu proposed by Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO).

The new airport’s site has not yet been finalized. It will be located on a 2000-4800 acre site either in Sriperumbudur, Maduranatakam, Walajabad, Alamathy, Kancheepuram, Cheyyur, Mamandur, Parandur or Gummidipoondi.

Chennai’s second airport will function alongside the existing Chennai International Airport (MMA) which has reached its design capacity. It will require substantial land acquisition from local villages.

Current Status & Tenders

The airport’s site has not yet been finalized. In 2021, Tamil Nadu’s state government requested Airports Authority of India (AAI) to inspect various sites and prepare a feasibility study report.
