New Chennai Parandur Airport – Status, Master Plan & Design

Parandur Airport is a proposed project in Chennai, Tamil Nadu proposed by Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO).

In 2021, Tamil Nadu’s state government requested Airports Authority of India (AAI) to inspect various sites and prepare a feasibility study report. Other sites in contention were located at Sriperumbudur, Maduranatakam, Walajabad, Alamathy, Kancheepuram, Cheyyur, Mamandur, Parandur or Gummidipoondi.

The new airport’s site location was finalized in July 2022. The new airport is expected to be completed and opened in 2028. It will be connected with the Bangalore – Chennai Expressway.

Chennai’s second airport will function alongside the existing Chennai International Airport (MMA) which has reached its design capacity. The project spread across 5746 acres involves the acquisition of roughly 3000 acres of land. The rest is already owned by the state government.
