Current Status
In June 2024, India’s Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) invited bids to appoint a consultant for developing Kharagpur – Visakhapatnam Expressway’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) under 2 packages:
- Package 1: Kharagpur – Chandikhol – Cuttack – Khorda – Tangi (390 km)
- Package 2: Tangi – Brahampur – Visakhapatnam (393 km)
In November 2024, MoRTH received a total of 18 bids – 10 for Package 1 and 8 for Package 2 – see bidder list here.
The consultant will suggest whether to develop the corridor as a semi access-controlled ‘economic corridor’ or a full-fledged expressway with better design and safety standards.
