Great Nicobar Port – Information & Status Updates

Galathea Bay Port or International Container Transhipment Port (ICTP) is a container terminal planned to be built at Great Nicobar’s Galathea Bay in India’s Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The project is also known as Great Nicobar Port.

The Galathea Bay Port project will be developed on the public private partnership (PPP) mode targeting international container trans-shipment movement in the Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean. It will have a “deep draft” of over 20 meters to allow access to larger vessels.

Galathea Bay Port is estimated to cost Rs. 41,000 crore. Construction on the project is expected to start in April 2025. It will come up in four phases having a total capacity of 16 million TEUs when fully completed by 2058.

The project is part of the Great Nicobar Island project – a Rs. 75,000 crore mega project which will include construction of a new airport (Great Nicobar International Airport or GNIA), gas and solar power plant, and two new coastal cities.
