Raipur Light Metro or Metrolite is a light rail transit (LRT) system proposed to be built in Raipur, Chhattisgarh by the state’s Urban Administration and Development.
- Raipur Metrolite Deadline: To be Determined
- My Completion Estimate: 2028 (no sooner, if approved by state and central governments in 2023)
A light rail has been in the works since 2019 when the state government signed a MoU with Nuam Technopreneur Pvt Ltd – an unknown firm – to develop a route connecting Shastri Chowk and Tatibandh. The firm had proposed to bear the project’s complete cost and operate modern battery-operated trains with a capacity of 1068 passengers for a period of 30 years. That project never materialized.
In February 2021, India’s Union Housing and Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Puri asked the Chhattisgarh state government to prepare and submit a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for funding consideration.
