Phase 2 Information
58 km Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 project is currently in the proposal stage. In February 2020, its detailed project report (DPR) with 3 new lines & extensions of existing lines was submitted to the Telangana government for approval.
As per the latest plan revealed by Hyderabad Metro’s MD, the Phase 2 project will include 3 elevated corridors or extensions of the existing lines built in the 67 km Phase 1 project. It hasn’t been finalized whether this phase will be developed on the EPC method or on the PPP (Public-Private Partnership) route.

New Phase 2 Plan
Line-1 – Red Line: Miyapur – Lakdikapul
- Length: 22 km
- Type: Elevated
- Number of Stations: N/A
- Station Names: N/A
- Note: This extension will connect and pass through Miyapur – BHEL – Kondapur – Gachibowli – Raidurg – Mehdipatnam – Masab Tank – Lakdi Ka Pul (located also on the Red Line) intersecting itself to form a small ring for the north-west quadrant of the city.
Line-3 – Blue Line: Raidurg – Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA)
- Length: 31 km
- Type: Elevated, At-Grade (1 km) & Underground (2.5 km)
- Number of Stations: 8
- Stations Names: Bio-Diversity Junction, Nanakramguda, Narsingi, TS Police Academy, Rajendranagar, Shamshabad, Airport Cargo, Airport Terminal
- Note: This extension of the Blue Line will pass through Gachibowli and Himayathsagar via the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to connect up with Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad. Its Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this extension was prepared by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation in 2018-19. The line is estimated to cost Rs. 4,650 cr and will be executed by Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) – a new special purpose vehicle. Funds are expected to be provided by Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and GMR Group.
Line-3 – Blue Line: Nagole – LB Nagar
- Length: 5 km
- Type: Elevated
- Number of Stations: N/A
- Station Names: N/A
- Note: this small extension of the Blue Line will connect up to the Red Line’s Nagole Station. Both station boxes at LB Nagar will likely be connected via foot overbridge (FOB), as the Red Line’s station is about 400m away from the Inner Ring Road.
Old Phase 2 Plan
The old plan consisted of the following 5 lines. Out of these, only 1 (the Blue Line’s extension from Raidurg to the RGI Airport) has been retained in the new plan. The rest are off the table.
New Line:
- Line-4 – Purple Line: Tarnaka – ECIL (7 km)
Note: As per some news reports, a section of this line would have been built underground.
Extensions:
- Line-1 – Red Line: LB Nagar – Hayathnagar (7 km)
- Line-1 – Red Line: Miyapur – BHEL – Patancheru (13 km)
- Line-3 – Blue Line: Nagole – LB Nagar – Falaknuma – Shamshabad Airport (28 km)
- Line-3 – Blue Line: Raidurg – Gachibowli – Shamshabad Airport (30.7 km)
