Financial Bids for Mumbai Metro’s Line 3 (Colaba-SEEPZ) Opened! Here’s a List of Lowest Bidders
Roughly 2 years after the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation called for prequalification bids from interested construction companies in Sept 2013 and roughly a year after they shortlisted 9 companies in Sept 2014, the MMRC today FINALLY opened all the financial bids to determine the lowest bidders for the 7 civil construction contracts of the 33.5 km Line 3 which will connect Cuffe Parade in Colaba with SEEPZ in northern Mumbai.
Here’s a list of lowest bidders along with their contract package details:
• Larsen & Toubro Ltd/Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co. Ltd – Contract Package MM3-CBS-UGC-01
Ch. : -488 to Ch. : 3762 including four underground stations and associated bored tunnels together with two tunnel sidings at Cuffe Parade.
Locations of Stations are:
• Cuffe Parade Station: BMC Park (Taj Vivanta)
• Vidhan Bhavan Station : In between Nariman Point Fire Brigade Station and
Vidhan Sabha Assembly Hall (Vidhan Bhavan Assembly)
• Churchgate Station: Jamshedji Tata Road ( Eros Cinema Hall)
• Hutatama Chowk Station: Dadabhai Naoroji Road (Hutatma Statue)
• OSJC Moscow Metrostroy – Hindustan Construction Co.Ltd – Contract Package MM3-CBS-UGC-02

Ch.: 28388 to Ch.: 32367 including three underground stations and associated bored tunnels together with a ramp for the depot connection.

• Marol Naka Station: Andheri – Kurla Road ( MML1 Marol Naka Station)
• MIDC Station: Road No.7 – connecting Krantiveer Akhuji Salve Road(Sr. Police
Colony & Vikroli Village Hutment Area)
• SEEPZ Station: Krantiveer Akhuji Salve Marg (SEEPZ Gate No. 1)

Also, here’s a cool little video which goes over this news. The alignment of the section from the Domestic Airport towards SEEPZ is horribly wrong, but we can let it pass 🙂
To put things into perspective, both Larsen & Toubro and J Kumar emerged as the lowest bidder for 2 sections each. The rest of the 3 sections saw CEC-ITD-Tata, Soma and the Hindustan Construction Company emerging as the lowest bidders. Unless these companies now get disqualified, they will all be awarded the contract later this month. After that, preliminary work with site barricading and utility shifting is expected to begin in January 2016. As per my estimates, tunneling work will only begin in January 2017.
