Delhi Metro Phase 3 – January 2016 Update

On this Wednesday, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) updated their website with the Phase 3 project’s progress made up till the end of December by different contractors. In case you are interested, last month’s update can be viewed here – Delhi Metro Phase 3 – December 2015 Update.

Like always, their images are mediocre and not fit to showcase the progress of a prominent project of this nature or sheer size, but anyways here are some of my favorite images from this month’s update.

Here’s a handy map: Delhi Metro Phase 3 – Information & Map

Blue line: Dwarka – Najafgarh extension (4.295 km)

As of the morning of January 29, 390 rings (546 m) have been built out of 675 rings (945 m). This line has a construction deadline of April 2017.

Violet line: Mandi House – Kashmere Gate extension (9.370 km)

There’s evidently quite a lot of civil work pending which along with station finishing has to meet the internal deadline of December 2016. While that won’t possible, what’s good is that multiple tasks are being performed in parallel to speed things up. For example, even though both tunnels between Delhi Gate and Jama Masjid are not ready on the Violet line, the station finishing works by the subcontractors are in an advanced stage. It’s the same story for the Vasant Vihar station (shown above) and many others on the Magenta line.

At the start of next month, I’ll publish my February tunneling update, but if you’d like to instantly see a detailed report on all the tunnels of Phase 3, then please see: January 2016 Tunneling Update. As a heads-up, the first week of February is going to be lined up with 3 TBM breakthroughs at the Mayapuri shaft on the Pink line and at the Golcha mid-shaft & Lal Qila station on the Violet line.

Rithala – Narela line’s construction will start in 2018/19. There’s a plan to connect Dwarka with Prem Piao which will later be extended to Narela.
