3rd Launching Gantry Commissioned for Ahmedabad Metro’s EW Line
Last week, J Kumar Infraprojects commissioned their 3rd launching gantry crane close to Apparel Park for building a 6 km portion of Ahmedabad Metro’s 20.536 km east-west line! The first two were set up in the Vastral station area and commissioned in February and May after which they rapidly began launching precast segments and building spans stressed together using tendons.
Enjoy some images via TMRG reader Bhavin who’s a prolific follower of the metro’s progress.
Here’s a brilliant 1 minute video on how the launching gantry works its magic with precast segments one by one to build modern segmental viaducts/bridges:
And here are 2 new images of the 1st launching gantry which is soon about to cross the Sardar Patel Ring Road towards the Vastral Gam station (left).
There was a small oops moment at one of the line’s upcoming piers yesterday when scaffolding and annealed steel wire (to tie rebar) gave way. Luckily no one was hurt! Hopefully this brings about a thorough review in construction and safety procedures.
