12 Bidders for Itanagar Airport’s Construction at Holongi
I’ve started tracking major airport contracts as well ’cause why not? 😀
Twelve construction firms have submitted bids to build the city-side and pending air-side infrastructure of Itanagar Airport after the Airports Authority of India (AAI) opened technical bids this afternoon.
The capital of Arunachal Pradesh currently doesn’t have an airport of its own and the closest to it is Lilabari Airport (also known as North Lakhimpur Airport) in Assam, located about 70 km away. Itanagar’s new airport is being developed at a 4,100 square metre site about 15 km south in Hollongi, right at the base of the Himalayas – view satellite imagery.
Per AAI’s recent tweet:
This New Greenfield Airport will be equipped to handle A320 type aircraft, having a capacity of 200 flyers during peak hours and will consist of 5 check-in counters and 2 parking bays. The project is to be completed at an estimated cost of ₹645.63 Cr. The new airport terminal, spread across 4100 sqm., will be an energy-efficient building with rainwater harvesting system. It will have a glass façade offering the panoramic scenic view of the mighty Himalayas.
AAI re-invited bids for its construction for the 3rd time in February with an estimated cost of Rs. 160.85 crore and completion deadline of 15 months.
Bidders:
- DRA Infracon
- Engineering Projects (India)
- Gannon Dunkerley & Co
- ISGEC Heavy Engineering
- KCL-SCC JV

The bids have now been sent for technical evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor.
Besides Itanagar Airport, I’ve also started tracking Rajkot and Dholera airports’ contracts. Bid submission deadlines for those are coming up on April 15 and 22, so stay tuned for similar posts! Drop a comment or send me an email if there are any other ongoing / upcoming airport contracts I should track.
Over the past 2 months, I’ve created new information pages for 3 airports. These are linked up on the menu bar under ‘Misc.’ > ‘Airports’. Check them out for contract information and designs:
- Panvel | Navi Mumbai International Airport
- Jewar | Noida International Airport
- Dholera International Airport

The Indian Infra boi
lol
The Metro Rail Guy -> The Infra Tracker ?
No plans to rebrand as rail based infra is still at the forefront 🙂
Manali airport
Tawang airport
Thanks – will take a look at their status/tenders
One would hardly call Itanagar airport a big ticket project – my college library had more floor space than their whole terminal 😛
Indeed low value and that’s a common theme across new airports outside of T1 cities.
The next big ones to undergo development will likely be at Chennai and Pune. Many moons to go before that happens.
Runway between two tributaries of Brahmaputra (Holongi River & Kokila River), with Kokila river to be diverted/channelized below the runway…
right at the border of Arunachal and Assam – southern boundary of the Airport is inter-state boundary – appears to be a desperate attempt by the planner to fit the airport fully inside Arunachal..
hope AAI had appointed a good consultant to prepare the DPR…
Lot of Chakma (refugee) settlements around; they need to be re-settled…Is land acquisition complete?
Yup, acquisition is squared away with site leveling and basic property development ongoing.

Please track the expansion work for delhi airport as well.. new runway, elevated taxiway, terminal 1 intergration/expansion and future plans of t4 construction and t3 expansion.
Delhi Airport is under DIAL, as you likely know, so tracking contracts would be a little difficult. Things are done privately.
Ok.. I understand..However, if you can provide your insights into any press release by GMR or any media report, that would be helpful.
thank you for the information. We appreciate your efforts. any plans on expanding to all of Infra projects?
