Civil Work Completed for Delhi Metro’s Bahadurgarh Depot-Line

Per a report in the Dainik Jagran, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s civil contractor, Quality Buildcon Pvt. Ltd., has completed building a roughly 300m missing link, earlier stuck in land acquisition, between the 29.64 km Green Line and its second maintenance depot at Bahadurgarh’s Sector-9 in Haryana as part of the 162 km Phase 3 project.

This is encouraging news for Green Line riders as the DMRC has been forced to operate trains with extremely high headways of anywhere between 6:22 to 9:30 minutes, depending on the day and time, on the 11.18 km Mundka – Brigadier Hoshiyar Singh (erst. City Park) section of the line since its opening in June 2018.

Land for the depot-line was stuck in the acquisition stage for 5+ years until February 2018 when the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) was finally able to acquire and demolish a private factory’s building. This was a little too late as the rest of the new section was ready for operations, and so the DMRC went on to start commercial operations with a fleet of 24 trains all located at the Mundka Depot.

The contract to build the depot-line’s missing link and viaduct portals was awarded to Quality Buildcon with a value of Rs. 18.14 crore in May 2018 under package CC-43A (R). They had beaten Pragati Construction Consultants in the financial bidding round.

With civil work completed, next steps would be to lay tracks and install subsystems (OHE poles, telecommunication, signalling etc.) equipment.
