TBM Parts Lowered for Tunneling Delhi Metro’s Chirag Delhi – Greater Kailash Section

FEMC-Pratibha JV – the Delhi Metro’s contractor for the Magenta line’s underground section between Hauz Khas and Kalkaji Mandir (CC-23) has over the past couple of days lowered parts of a Tunneling Boring Machine (TBM) to bore the up-line tunnel and connect the Chirag Delhi station with the Greater Kailash station.

As per an engineer working on this section, tunneling will begin by the end of the month as other parts of the TBM, like the cutterhead for instance, need to be lowered and joined together. The tunneling distance between the two stations is roughly 450 meters (300 rings) and a breakthrough can be expected to take place in April if no issues arise.

In January 2016, parts of a different TBM will be lowered for boring the down-line tunnel of the same section!
