Riyadh Metro is a 176 km mass rapid transit system (MRTS) with 84 metro stations and 6 metro lines under construction in Riyadh, King of Saudi Arabia (KSA).
Riyadh Metro’s first phase opened in November 2024 comprising of the 64 km Blue Line and Red Line.
Construction for Riyadh Metro project started in April 2014. Riyadh Metro had a deadline of December 2024 and is one of the largest transit projects to be constructed in one go making it a “mega project”.
Current Status
Riyadh Metro’s first phase opened in November 2024 comprising of the 64 km Blue Line and Red Line. The entire project has an estimated cost of USD 22.5 billion and is part of the King Abdulaziz Project for Riyadh Public Transport.

Riyadh Metro stations
The Riyadh Metro will consist of 84 metro stations located in densely populated districts, commercial centers, educational institutions, and medical facilities. Of the 84 stations, four key stations will serve as major transit hubs where metro lines intersect with the bus network. These stations include:
- Qasr Al-Hukm District Metro Station
- King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) Metro Station (designed by Zaha Hadid Architects)
- Western Metro Station
- STC Metro Station

Riyadh Metro Ticket Prices
Official ticket pricing for Riyadh Metro has not been released. Ticket prices for travel on Riyadh Metro will be updated here when operations begin.
That said, the Riyadh Development Authority (RDA) has indicated that a weekly metro ticket is expected to cost around SAR 25.
Riyadh Metro will feature n advanced ticketing system designed for hassle-free ticketing and fare collection. Commuters will be able to tap their smart card near the card reader using near-field communication (NFC) technology.
