Thane Metro Phase 1 project with 1 circular line and 22 stations is a 29 km mass rapid transit system (MRTS) approved to be built in Thane, Maharashtra by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRC or MahaMetro).
The project is officially known as Thane Integral Ring Metro and was approved by India’s Central Government in August 2024 with an estimated total cost of Rs. 12,200 crore.
Thane’s mass transit project was initially planned as a regular (heavy) metro line, had its foundation stone laid by the Prime Minister in December 2018, scrapped in 2019 due to cost concerns, and then resurrected as a metrolite or light rail transit (LRT) system in early 2020.
In 2023, the project was redesigned as a regular metro line. Thane Metro will loop around Thane city and consist of 22 stations (20 elevated and 2 underground) to link Mumbai Metro’s 32.32 km Line-4 (Green Line), 24.9 km Line-5 (Orange Line), and the Central Railways’ Thane Station.
Thane Metro’s train maintenance depot (carshed) is planned to built at Wadavli.

Thane Metro Fares
Thane Metro’s fare structure, prices and rules have not been announced yet. That will be finalized closer to the start of commercial operations. Ticketing will likely be integrated with Mumbai’s Metro network.
