Nagpur Metro’s Interchange to be part of 25 Storey Building

As per various reports (like this & this), Nagpur’s Sitabuldi station, which will function as an interchange between the north-south and east-west metro lines, will be part of a 25 storey building. This interchange station is proposed to come up at Munje Square and a huge passenger load is expected.

The building is proposed to be the tallest in the city and will contain a viewers’ gallery on the terrace. The building itself will also contain shops, offices, restaurants and perhaps a hotel as well. With this mixed-use transit oriented development plan in place, the Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Limited (NMRCL) hopes that it will become an excellent source of revenue. They plan to hold a global competition for architects to design this landmark building.

The below walkthrough video shows a representational building at 3 mins and 10 seconds:

The station at Munje Square  is not the only one that NMRCL plans to make a landmark building. At Ambazari, the station will have a 1 km walkway (with a glass wall) at a height of 15 meters that will provide a view of the lake and its surroundings. Similarly, commercial development will also take place here.
