L&T Erects 100 U-girders in Record Time in Lucknow

As per a new report, Larsen & Toubro in Lucknow has erected a record 100 U-shaped girders in 324 hours on the 8.3 kms first stretch that runs from the RTO office in Transport Nagar to the Railway Station in Charbagh. While I haven’t had the chance to verify this claim, as per the Lucknow Metro Rail Corp (LMRC), this is the faster U-shaped girder erection in the history of metro construction.

Due to space constraints on the road, L&T is only able to erect the girders at night during a 6 hour window. Below is an image from Delhi’s Airport Express line where space allowed the contractor to erect the girders during the day:

Coming back to Lucknow, as you can see in this image below, two U-shaped girders are placed between adjacent pillars to form the Metro’s viaduct/bridge. In total, 108 U-shaped girders have been placed so far.

Besides announcing this, the LMRC also said that the preliminary construction work of concourse level of metro stations has already been started at the Krishnanagar and Transport Nagar stations. By February 2016, the skeletal structure of all the metro stations will be visible. For the latest construction images, please check the Lucknow section.
