MMRDA to Submit Dahisar-DN Nagar & Dahisar(E)-Andheri (E) Metro Lines for Approval

As per recent reports, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will soon be submitting the Detailed Project Reports for two lines to the state government for their approval. These lines include:

Line 2: Dahisar – DN Nagar (a part of the larger Dahisar-Bandra-Mankhurd line)
Line 5: Dahisar East – Andheri East (a part of the larger Dahisar East – Andheri East – Bandra East line)

After the Maharashtra government approves these two new metro lines, the MMRDA will then start arranging for funds from various sources including foreign lenders besides assistance from the central and state governments.

According to UPS Madan, the MMRDA’s commissioner :

As the detailed project reports (DPR) for these lines have been approved, we are going to seek the state government’s approval. The elevated Metro lines will be constructed on cash contract mode. We will raise funds through loans and financial grants from the governments including sub debt

The MMRDA two weeks ago approved the new DPRs for these lines (See: MMRDA Approves 4 Metro Lines Totaling 118 KMs) and the Chief Minister of the state plans to secure funding for them while on his visit to Japan. I’ve made the following map which shows the alignment of both the lines:

Mumbai Metro Map showing Dahisar-DN Nagar line in Blue and Dahisar East -Andheri East line in Red

Mumbai Metro Map showing Dahisar-DN Nagar line in Blue and Dahisar East -Andheri East line in Red

Line 2 – shown in Blue above
The 18.6-km Dahisar-DN Nagar metro line is a part of 40-km Line 2 between Dahisar-Bandra-Mankhurd and will cost an estimated Rs 4,994 crore. It is planned to be developed in three phases: Dahisar-DN Nagar, DN Nagar-Bandra East and Bandra East – Mankhurd. The DN Nagar to Bandra East section is facing several hurdles which include land acquisition and pressure from various groups which want the line to run underground.

Line 5 – shown in Red above
The 16.5-km Dahisar (East)-Andheri (East) metro line is a part of the 27 km line 5 between Dahisar E-Andheri E-Bandra E and will cost an estimated Rs 4,737 crore. It is planned to be entirely elevated and run along the Western Express Highway. South of Vile Parle, it is now planned to connect with Line 3 at the Domestic terminal of the Airport! Due to the line running in the funnel zone of both the 14/32 & 09/27 runways, the line will in all probability will have to go underground between Vile Parle and Santa Cruz. The Delhi Metro Rail Corp is currently preparing the DPR for the Andheri E-Bandra E section and that will make the exact alignment, type (elevated/underground) and the location & number of stations clearer.

It makes up, certainly, for The Green Hornet, and is a hell of an start for the superhero season. It takes your stereotypical horror story of a group of archetypally based friends going off and achieving terrorized by some horrific being or creature for just one reason or another. If you happen to be looking for a versatile location to get a film or stills shoot here are ten why you should consider Cape Town.
