Gujarat CM Lays Foundation Stone For Ahmedabad Metro’s Line 2
On this Sunday, Gujarat’s Chief Minister Anandiben Patel laid the foundation stone and performed a small puja to inaugurate the start of construction work for Ahmedabad Metro’s Line 2 from the Gyaspur Depot to Motera! During the inauguration, she also announced that work to prepare the Detailed Project Report of the line’s extension into Gandhinagar has been kick-started by the Metro-Link Express for Gandhinagar & Ahmedabad (MEGA).
This 18.522 km elevated line from the Gyaspur Depot (APMC area) to Motera station will consist of 15 stations at Motera stadium, Sabarmati, AEC, Sabarmati railway station, Ranip, Vadaj, Vijay Nagar, Usmanpura, Old High Court Interchange, Gandhigram, Paldi, Shreyas, Rajiv Nagar, Jivraj Park and APMC. More details including an embedded map can be viewed here: Ahmedabad Metro – Information, Map & Updates
The southern portion of this north-south line from the Gyaspur depot to Shreyas was recently awarded to IL&FS Engineering who placed the lowest bid to construct it. The contractor for the Motera-Ranip section of the line’s viaduct is expected to be announced any time now while the tendering process for the Shreyas to Ranip section is yet to begin.
Unlike the Mumbai Metro’s recent inauguration ceremony that was held at a public ground, this ceremony was conducted on-site right on the street! A single file of temporary barricades were placed on one side of the road that can been in the last image.
Work on the east-west Line 1 from Thatlej Gam to Vastral Gam is progressing at a nice pace where the contractor will soon begin launching precast segments to form the line’s viaduct. I would really encourage checking out the Ahmedabad section of my site to view recent construction updates!
