[Pics] Viaduct Construction to Begin Soon for Ahmedabad’s Metro

In March, J Kumar Infraprojects will begin launching precast segments to construct the viaduct of a portion of Ahmedabad’s 20.737 km east-west metro line! In January, they started erecting parts of a launching gantry crane on Vastral Road and plan to complete erecting the rest by the end of this month in order to erect segments and construct the 6 km viaduct portion from Vastral Gam to Apparel Park.

Back in December, I had shared images of the support structure that’s coming up for a launching gantry. A bulk of its parts have now been erected. More parts will be erected in the next few weeks after which its end-form will resemble this launching gantry used by Larsen & Toubro in Bangalore.

Here’s a brilliant 1 minute video which I recently shared on Twitter of how the launching gantry works its magic with precast segments (see their images) one-by-one to build a viaduct. It’s almost like playing with Lego!
