Nagpur Metro Unveils Zero Mile & Sitaburdi Metro Stations’ Designs

The Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation this week unveiled the preliminary design of their Zero Mile and Sitaburdi interchange stations! They had launched a global 3 stage design competition in May 2015 and invited bids from architecture firms in November 2015 after which 23 firms submitted their designs. Of those, only 13 were shortlisted for the detailed design stage and finally the following 4 were asked to submit their designs:

  1. Consortium of Enia Architects, Mahendra Raj Consultants & Worxpace Consulting
  2. Consortium of Ratan J Batliboi Consultants, GMP international & Shirish Patel and Associates Consultants
  3. Consortium of Vishwannath Associates and Girish S Swamy Consultants
  4. Consortium of Fountainhead and Tondon Consultants

The façade of the highrise buildings at both stations will use local stone & glass, and are said to be environmentally friendly. As the NMRCL is aiming to fulfill 2/3rd of its power requirements from solar energy, there’s a possibility that they’ll aim for the coveted LEED certification for these buildings. While the NMRCL will develop the stations (bids will soon be invited), their highrise components will either be developed & managed through a public–private partnership (PPP) or through the Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC) mode at a later stage.
