[Pics] Progress of Kolkata Metro’s Dum Dum Cantt. Station

Here are brand new images of Kolkata Metro’s upcoming Dum Dum Cantonment Metro station! This station is part of the 18.13 km Noapara – Barasat line of which a 6.87 km section between Noapara and the NSCBI Airport is currently under construction in stages.

The Rs 127 crore contract to build this station along with a mostly at-grade 2.16 km section from the Bagjola Canal to the existing ramp of the Airport Circular Railway track was awarded to Senbo Engineering all the way back in June 2011. Since then, the station’s civil structure has been built, but work for the at-grade track section has not been able to commence due to land acquisition issues on a horrific scale along the line’s proposed alignment which the West Bengal government has taken no interest in resolving

Satellite view of the station:

Use your mouse to see the heavily built up areas just south of it. As per one report, there are 800 encroachments between Noapara and Dum Dum Cantonment stations.

Where exactly is the at-grade section? After or before the Dum Dum Cantonment station? And isn’t the alignment supposed to go underground near the airport?

On both sides of the station’s ramps. The line will run underground from Jessore Road to the Airport.

Hi, north of the airport, the line’s construction has been put on hold as the contractors walked out since they weren’t provided with the necessary land. A list of station names hasn’t been made public
